Masako knew she will feel so at home here, and cannot wait to know the other girls. There is so much she has to learn, not just the arts, but her duties

How wonderful, yesterday Masako met Teruko Shikabayashi of the Mizuno okiya. She knows Teruko-san must be close to maiko, for she is so proper. Truly my father has sent me to a proper school, and I will not embarrass him by not working hard to learn all that I must

Now if only I can get placed I can begin training, because I am so excited, and have made a good friend in Teruko. She is so mature and wise for her age; a good person for me to learn through

Everything seems to be moving as it should, now all I must make sure is that I do not offend any one. I will say some of the girls seem distant. I pass them and they say nothing, only Teruko-san has been so friendly and nice to me.
Now if only I can come in contact with Akeme and become friends with her as I am beginning to with Teruko.

Now that I am on my way, my excitement is all but uncontrollable.
The tea ceremony and dance seems to be my favorite so far, only because I have much training from my mother.
I just hope I can get into calligraphy and flower arrangement as easily.
Flirting and conversation, especially with men, will be so much fun and rewarding…and great for my ego…heehee. especially since I know I am a natural born flirt and love the company of men.
Why any young girl should shy away from that, I will never understand.

My classes seem to be going so well, I know I will never let up till I master each of them. Mother was right, the teachers seem to revel in being almost nasty…oh my I do love this so because I am prepared from them…teehee.

Will my excitement ever slow, each day I become more excited over the training I am getting. The other girls are warming up, Teruko is becoming a close friend, I do hope she will continue after she makes maiko.

I have finally met Akeme-san the newest Maiko, she is so sweet, and so very pretty. I know she makes a beautiful Maiko. Everything is moving so quickly. Teruko-san should be Maiko very soon, and I am working very hard to get there too.

Will Sakura, for Masako and Sakurako for her big sister? As I understand it, both must be from the same root. Found these in a Japanese name site

The house mother has chosen my big sister, my professional name picked, now if only I can get through these next days without dishonoring father, and making me look like an idiot as I go into the different tea houses to meet the owners...and have them meet me.

At the same time I am proud to be my father's daughter, it is at times also a fearful position, as I am finding out. I must remember to thank Sakurako each time she corrects my actions. Although hopefully soon I shall become proficient enough that she will not need to…as if that could ever happen. Hmmm, like Teruko said, fathers are too often to much of a disciplinarian. Mother would be so upset with me if she even thought I was even thinking this. It is amazing to me he holds so much weight here though.

Oh my, will I ever be able to contain my excitement, in two of my ozashiki was father present and he expressed such pride in my responsiveness toward the man I was setting next to. I must wonder if his words of encouragement were real, or just to give me more confidence…poop, who cares, they sounded good to me.
