I've read Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden (way better thanm the movie) and I am reading Geisha, a Life by Mineko Awasaki
I liek the las tone better because there is less 'drama' and it is more historically correct,. or you should think since it is a autobiography

I'm doing my English ALevel coursework on Memoirs of a Geisha. I think Aurther Golden did a fantastic job. I was just immersed in the culture. That's what made me fall in love with Geisha. I also read Mineko Iwasaki's book and thought it was lovely. Geisha by Liza Dalby is on my to-buy list and I'm also looking for a reputable "learn japanese" book

I am now reading, "Women of the pleasure quarter," and will most likely need to read it over again because of how interesting it is, I'm racing through it. Lesley Downer has put together an interesting combination of history, stories she has been told about the lives of older geisha, and cute tails of maiko. Geisha by Liza Dalby is next on my list. then perhaps one of the stories written by an ex-geisha.

Lesley Downer's book, "Women of the Pleasure quarter," is so good, I laughed till I cried, and in other places just cried, but she does end it with a good note. Lisa Dalby's book promises to be exulant, especially since she actually went through some Geisha training and learned the arts of the trade.

I'm now reading Geisha by liza Dalby, Aileen you are right it's great, doesn't her older sister remind you of the character I've put together, "A rambunctious young geisha." this promises to be ever so good.
