Teruha's dresser came by much earlier than usual and dressed her in a 5-crested formal furisode. Her okaasan had picked it out, and the kanzashi to match.
She loaded onto the bus with all her fellow maiko and sat next to her friend.

“Hi”, Masako happily says to Teruko, “I feel very optimistic about this, we have put much work in to seeing to it, that we will do well. Do you not agree Teruko-san?”

"Teruha. When I'm dressed like this, I'm Teruha. Just as you are Sakura-chan." She fidgeted a bit with her hands. "I can't help being nervous when we're going to perform for the Emperor and his family. After all, his family has long been worshipped as the children of Amaterasu! That can be rather intimidating."
