After dance class Teacher calls a few of us, and tells us, "The emperor's birthday is coming soon, I will begin teaching you a special dance, you shall perform for him.
"This is a great honor for you and the school, please work hard and do not embarrass me."
And our excitement goes into high gear, "Just think Teruko, the emperor, we are going to perform for him...oh wow!!!!!"

"Worthy...WOW!!!...Worthy. It is one thing to dance or play for ozashiki customers, but for a god living among us, the 125th emperor in an unbroken line...how will I ever maintain my composure?"

"Sometimes the things you come up with, my friend... The emperor had to renounce his divine status after the war. Officially, they are now mortal. Spiritually important, of course, but no longer divine."

“Possibly,” Masako hastens to add, “But I like feeling Japan has an honest to real descendant of the great goddess, Amaterasu living among us.
“Before that horror able war we knew we were the most superior race of peoples on earth. To satisfy the American General our loved emperor Showa had to make that announcement…but as we have proven time and time again we rose above the ashes to become one of the most successful powers on earth…one which the world now recognizes as such.
“Truly a peoples must be divinely inspired to do such a feat. I may look to others as a silly young girl, but I love my divine emperor. His inspiration has led us to do these almost impossible feats of success.
“Oh…dear, I most be careful, if I continue talking like this, no one will ever believe me to be the dumb, little flirt I have worked so hard to seem…teeheehee…is this not so Teruko?
“Now I must work so very hard to show my loyalty to our divine emperor…oh, dear…I am becoming nervous even now…we must wonder what will sensei have us perform for Him.
Will we be only a small part of it all, or...the 1st or last to perform, there by leaving a more lasting impression. Oh...MY God, I pray I will not become over-wrought...Teruko, please pinch me hard if you see me gertting stupid

"We'll just have to weed out your improvisational impulses during practice."

"Now on that point you are ever so right, no free lancing during a performance like this." Masako replies, actually sounding serous.
